Speed Racer: SpeedArt Makes the Porsche Cayenne Hybrid Even Faster

by Jeffrey Jablansky
Our first drive of the 2011 Porsche Cayenne S Hybrid revealed that power and performance don't have to be hampered by green credentials. Building on Porsche's formula, German tuning firm SpeedArt has released an even faster Cayenne hybrid -- the SpeedHybrid 450.
The vital statistics of the Cayenne S Hybrid are already impressive, and SpeedArt's modifications further stretch the limits of Porsche's hybrid powertrain. The garden-variety Cayenne S Hybrid offers a combined 380 horsepower and 428 pound-feet of torque and uses an Audi-sourced 3.0-liter supercharged V-6 as its gas engine. As the name suggests, the SpeedArt 450 ups horsepower to 450. According to SpeedArt's testing, the 0-to-60 time drops by 0.5 second to 6.0, and top speed rises to just over 155 mph. Not bad for an SUV that tips the scales at close to 5000 pounds.
SpeedArt's modifications stay true to the Cayenne Hybrid's sporty yet eco-friendly character. As in the stock Cayenne S Hybrid, the SpeedArt 450's engine will shut off when appropriate. To make sure you hear the SpeedArt coming, the tuner also offers a sound switch to amplify the roar of the sweet six-cylinder engine.
Interior and exterior modifications round out SpeedArt's changes. Inside, the only major additions are a turbo gauge and a blue rev counter. The Cayenne's exterior is treated to a distinctive coating of white and blue, and the black-painted wheels measure 22 inches.
Pricing was not available on SpeedArt's Web site, but the package is likely to add some greenbacks to the green Cayenne's $68,675 price tag. SpeedArt's execution on the hybrid Cayenne is up there with versions of the original-recipe Cayenne by Merdad and Lumma Design.

Porsche Celebrating 60 Years in U.S. with Contests, Web Site

by Nate Martinez
In celebration of its 60th year in America, Porsche Cars North America has launched a series of Porsche-themed events and contests through a new website,
www.Porsche60Years.com.
Two of the first contests -- My Porsche Classic Search and My Porsche Passion Contest -- give brand fans and classic car owners the chance to win some pretty cool prizes, like an all-expense-paid trip to the Porsche Sport Driving School.
Think you or your neighbor's classic Porsche is really old? Upload images and information to the site. In its My Porsche Classic contest, Porsche is looking for the oldest examples of each of the 12 vehicle lines (356, 911, 912, 914, 924, 928, 944, 968, Boxster, Cayenne, Carrera GT, Cayman) that it sold in the U.S. Owners of the oldest cars will get a unique vehicle badge from the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart. Of course, there will be a top honor for the eldest Porsche still in the States.
Images of select vehicles are slated to go on display in Stuttgart during its "Sixty Years of Porsche in America" display starting October 12. One winner will also get a chance to display his/her car at the 2012 Los Angeles International Auto Show.
Unlike the classic contest, the My Porsche Passion Contest is open to anyone, particularly those enamored with the Stuttgart sports car maker. Fans are asked to submit an essay of 500 words or less on the 60th site explaining their brand love. A panel of judges will pick 20 winners whose work will get posted onto the celebratory site. Then users will vote for their favorite essay, with the top three vote-getters earning an all-expense-paid trip to the Porsche Sport Driving School in Birmingham, Alabama.
This week, the automaker is displaying some of its most pristine examples at the 2012 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. As you can imagine, this is only the beginning of Porsche's yearlong birthday events calendar, so stay tuned.

Each year, MileOne employees, friends and family participate in Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. The American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk is as unique and special as the stories that motivate our dedicated walkers, donors and volunteers. Each step we take is personal. And each donation is helping to save lives. And each volunteer helps create a world with less breast cancer and more birthdays.
This year the 4 mile walk will take place on October 24th at the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg YMCA in Baltimore, MD. MileOne will join many more local businesses, families, survivors and volunteers for the event. A 350 MPH School Bus?

by Bryan Usrey
With school about to get under way, what better way to show up on the first day than on a bus with fire coming out of the back? This may not be the safest way to travel, but it does make the school bus journey be fun again while eliminating the torturous normal journey that it usually is.
Paul Stender and IndyBoys Inc created this fire-shooting school bus and it packs a whopping 42,000 horsepower from its GE J-79 jet engine that is used on F4 Phantoms. Sadly, the bus did lose some of its hauling capacity, as only three people can sit inside. Not to mention it shoots 75-foot flames out of the back.
According to the IndyBoys website, the bus was able to hit 350 miles per hour, but we can’t imagine anybody would be willing to actually hit that sort of speed.
The Telegraph quoted Stender as he explained the reason for the bus. "I built the bus for two reasons. The first is to entertain people because, come on; it’s a jet bus. The second is to keep kids off drugs. Jets are hot, drugs are not."
Well done sir.

Commissioned in 1855, this sloop was the last all-sail warship built by the United States Navy, and is presently docked at Pier 1 in Baltimore's Inner Harbor. What is her name?
